About No Time for NOW

A few years ago I wrote my thesis on discrimination against fathers in child custody awards. As word made its way through the faculty, I had male teachers coming out of the woodwork to have lunch with me so they could share their stories. All were hard-working, dedicated, caring fathers who simply couldn’t afford to keep fighting a system that seemed intent on keeping them away from their children. Their stories have stayed with me - and, as they all had at least some visitation rights and were not living in poverty with impossibly-high child support demands, I know that they were the “lucky” ones.

In the course of my research I learned that 90% of fathers who seek joint custody (not deadbeat dads!) do not get it. I learned that judges in most states never have to justify their custody decisions beyond a vague statement of “the best interests of the child.” I learned that there are many male victims of domestic violence or sexual assault who have nowhere to go because organizations like the National Organization for Women have systematially sought “gender equality” on the basis of tearing men down instead of encouraging women to stand up.

The more I learn about NOW and other “women’s rights” groups, the more horrified I am to hear them claim to represent me. This blog is a place to vent my frustrations and share what I find with like-minded people - not a place to convince others of the truth. I’m polite and persuasive everywhere else - not here.

Let me be clear: I am genuinely thankful for the people of earlier generations who fought to challenge stereotypes and secure legal rights for women to vote, among other things. But let me also be clear: I believe that real gender egalitarians like Elizabeth Blackwell would be ashamed of what today’s women are doing in their name.
